Plans underway to build a beef processing facility in Texas, USA, capable of processing 400 heads per day
36 Local Livestock Investors Participate… Aiming to Develop Alternatives to Large Meat Processing Companies

A new beef slaughter and processing facility capable of processing about 400 head of cattle per day is being planned in Texas, USA. This project, led by local livestock industry stakeholders, is expected to be funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) loan guarantee program.
On October 29, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced guarantee support for a $24.6 million commercial loan related to a beef processing facility to be built in Dimmitt, Texas. The facility is planned to be constructed as a slaughter and processing facility subject to USDA inspection.
36 local livestock industry investors are pushing for construction
This project is being led by 36 local investors engaged in the livestock industry, such as raising cattle in the Texas Panhandle region.
The project participants set a goal to provide an alternative to large-scale national meat processing companies and to create conditions that allow local cattle producers to sell their cattle at more competitive prices.
The new facility has a daily cattle processing capacity of approximately 400 head. The USDA projected that the operation of the facility would create 220 new jobs and estimated that the average hourly wage for workers would be around $30.
$24.6 million in commercial loans supported by USDA loan guarantees
The USDA's Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program (B&I) will be utilized for this funding. This program involves the government providing guarantees for loans from financial institutions to support business activities and job creation in rural areas.
Therefore, the announced $24.6 million is not a grant directly paid by the USDA for the construction of the facility, but,The scale of commercial loans based on government loan guaranteesall.

Expectations for expansion of processing and sales channels for local small producers
The USDA expects this facility to contribute to expanding the local beef processing infrastructure and diversifying sales channels for livestock farmers. The aim is to enable local producers to secure clients other than large meat processing companies.
However, the USDA's official announcement did not specify concrete schedules for the facility's groundbreaking and completion, or the start date of operations. The actual construction schedule and operational plans must be confirmed through future additional announcements.
