Jeju Livestock Exports Grow 7.3-fold… Expansion of Sales Channels and Workplaces in Singapore
Exports of 173 tons and $3.29 million through September... Singapore drives 81%

Exports of livestock products from Jeju have increased to approximately 7.3 times the value of the same period last year through September of this year. Singapore led the growth, accounting for 81% of total exports, while the supply base for overseas markets is expanding as the number of local processing plants approved for export increases.

According to data released by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on October 22, exports of Jeju-produced livestock products totaled 173 tons and $3.29 million as of the end of September this year. The export value increased approximately 7.3 times from $450,000 during the same period last year and reached about 2.5 times the annual figure of $1.32 million from last year.

Singapore accounts for 81% of exports… leading pork exports
By item, pork accounted for a large share of national exports. Exports of pork from Jeju amounted to $1.82 million, recording 97.3% of the national total of $1.87 million. In terms of volume, Jeju pork accounted for 131 tons out of the national total of 135 tons. Exports of chilled beef also amounted to $1.36 million, accounting for 33.8% of the national total.

The largest export market is Singapore. As of September this year, exports to Singapore amounted to $2.67 million, accounting for approximately 81% of the total. This was followed by Hong Kong and Macau at $450,000, Mongolia at $90,000, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at $40,000.
Exports to Singapore began in earnest after an agreement was reached on the export of Jeju-produced Hanwoo beef and pork at the Korea-Singapore summit last November. The foundation for market entry was laid when Jeju Province was recognized as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) last May, and local processing plants met the hygiene and quarantine standards of the importing country.

Three additional processing plants… Approvals expanded via ‘pre-registration’ method
The number of participating export companies has also increased. Jeju Province announced that three processing plants—Hondi Livestock, Jeju Dream Pork, and Samda—were additionally registered with the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) last August. Hondi Livestock and Jeju Dream Pork were registered as Hanwoo and pork export facilities, while Samda was registered as a pork export facility. As a result, the number of export facilities in the province to Singapore has expanded from the existing six to a total of nine, including two slaughterhouses and seven processing plants.
The ‘pre-listing’ method was applied to this additional registration. This procedure involves the Gwangju Regional Food and Drug Administration inspecting workplaces domestically instead of the Singapore Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety recommending them to the SFDA. Jeju Province explained that the registration process was completed more quickly than with the previous on-site inspection method.
Jeju Province and the Gwangju Regional Food and Drug Administration have been conducting customized consultations and inspections for workplaces of companies hoping to export since December of last year. In May of this year, following public-private consultations, they established the ‘Plan to Revitalize Exports of Jeju Livestock Products’ and presented the formation of an export consultative body, expansion of support projects, and increase in the volume of livestock slaughtered for export as key initiatives.
Support for workplace approval and hygiene management… Expanding overseas sales channels
Jeju Province plans to support on-site and document reviews related to HACCP inspections and evaluations to secure additional export workplaces, and to strengthen hygiene management at existing approved workplaces.

We will stably maintain Jeju's status as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone and strengthen hygiene management at export facilities to support the continuous expansion of Jeju's livestock products into overseas markets.
