Camping has its own preferences, and barbecue offers the fun of choosing specific cuts. On top of this, there were even gifts to be received upon completing missions. The ‘Handon Basecamp,’ which opened at Seoul Nanji Camping Ground on October 24-25, was an experiential space where visitors could learn about and enjoy Handon pork before visiting the meat purchasing area.
The Korea Pork Self-Funding Management Committee (Chairman Lee Ki-hong) participated in the ‘2026 Seoul Barbecue Festival’ and operated a camping-themed promotional booth and a discounted sales booth for Korean pork. They introduced the taste and uses of Korean pork to visitors who came out to enjoy camping and barbecue in the city center.
Hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, this festival is a gourmet tourism event that combines K-BBQ with camping and picnics. It features a self-service BBQ zone where visitors can grill their own meat, as well as a BBQ Village offering dishes from famous restaurants. Matching the festive atmosphere, the Korea Pork Self-Help Fund also introduced programs where visitors can personally select, participate in, and make purchases.
Find your camping preferences, select the cuts of meat… Follow the mission to take a tour of Korean pork.
The tool used to enjoy the Handon Base Camp was the ‘Handon Camping Passport.’ Visitors utilized the passport to participate in activities such as a camping preference test, selecting pork cuts, voting on popular camping menu items, and taking photos at photo zones.
Information was also provided to help participants decide which cut to choose. Guides were given on the characteristics of different Korean pork cuts and how to use them in camping dishes to help them visualize their next barbecue menu. Participants who completed three or more missions were awarded Korean pork merchandise.

Enjoy a barbecue and try the ‘Pork Belly Song’ challenge.
The fun of the festival extended to social media as well. The ‘Han-don Samgyeopsal Song’ challenge, featuring singer Nam Gyu-ri, was linked to the on-site program.
Visitors could receive souvenirs by filming videos to the Samgyeopsal Song at the self-BBQ zone and picnic zone, posting them on their personal social media accounts, and verifying their participation. Essentially, the space for enjoying barbecue became a filming stage for the challenge.
After the experience, visitors could also browse the discounted Korean pork booth. A variety of pork products suitable for camping were showcased at discounted prices, leading to on-the-spot purchases.
The visitor feedback shared by the Korea Pork Self-Help Fund also captured the joy of both the experience and the purchase. One visitor said, “I was even more satisfied because I could enjoy pork-related games at the campsite, learn about cuts I didn't know before, and purchase pork at a discounted price.”
This promotional campaign is characterized by its natural integration of Korean pork into familiar leisure activities such as camping and barbecue. It engaged consumers through a flow where they learned about different cuts and cooking methods, participated in games, and personally selected products.
Lee Ki-hong, Chairman of the Korea Pork Self-Funding Committee, stated, “This festival was an opportunity for consumers to naturally experience the taste and value of Korean pork while enjoying camping and barbecue,” adding, “We will promote the appeal of Korean pork through promotional activities linked to various food cultures and continuously expand our points of contact with consumers.”.
