The Korea Animal Products Quality Evaluation Institute (President Park Su-jin) is launching a support program for certification mark packaging materials for distributors to promote the distribution of low-carbon certified livestock products and raise consumer awareness.

The ‘Low-Carbon Livestock Product Certification System’ is a system in which the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Animal Products Quality Evaluation Institute certify farms that have reduced carbon emissions by more than 10% by applying greenhouse gas reduction technologies during the livestock rearing process. Livestock products* produced at such farms and separately separated and processed are sold on the market with a certification mark attached.

* Certified livestock products: Hanwoo (castrated, under 30 months), pork, milk

This initiative is being implemented to alleviate the burden of work and costs on distributors, such as the production and attachment of certification stickers or design modifications. Instead of attaching separate stickers, the certification mark is printed directly onto existing packaging. By embedding the mark directly into the packaging, visibility is increased, helping consumers easily identify certified livestock products at the time of purchase.

The packaging materials eligible for support are items actually used in the distribution and sales process of certified livestock products, such as milk (carton) packs, PET bottles, packaging boxes, and product sleeves. Support is provided considering each company's product characteristics and packaging type.

Recruitment of participating companies begins on October 15, and details regarding application methods and eligibility can be found on the Korea Animal Products Quality Evaluation Institute website*. Packaging materials for selected companies are scheduled to be delivered sequentially in November.

Park Su-jin, President of the Korea Animal Products Quality Evaluation Institute, emphasized, “This project is designed to help livestock farmers translate their carbon reduction efforts into tangible value at the distribution and consumption levels,” adding, “We will continue to actively address on-site difficulties and create an environment where consumers can easily choose certified livestock products in their daily lives.”
